SMOKE/FRAGRANCE-FREE APARTMENT FOR RENT (TORONTO)

Available for rent is an apartment that may be suitable for someone with environmental allergies, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity ("MCS"), or anyone who simply prefers a fragrance and smoke-free environment.

I have MCS. This means that I have severe allergic reactions to scented products.

As the apartment is located within my house, I can only rent to a non-smoker who does not currently use scented products, even occasionally.

Unfortunately, it would not be sufficient to just stop using scented products when you move in. Experience has proven that scents actually build up on clothing, and can be very difficult to remove in the wash.

"Scented products" include items such as:

  • perfumes and colognes
  • scented anti-perspirants
  • laundry fabric softeners (e.g. Downy/Bounce - liquids or sheets)
  • hand and body lotions
  • hair gels and sprays, and "leave-in" hair conditioners

The above is not an exhaustive list, but includes items that many people overlook when thinking about scented products.

The Apartment:

The apartment is a self-contained bachelor basement apartment in my quiet house. It has its own private entrance.

It can be rented on a residential tenancy basis, OR as a vacation rental. (Either way, you must be able to meet the above-noted terms regarding scented products).

Features:

  • Furnished, self-contained basement apartment (private washroom, private kitchen), with private entrance, and walkout to a sunny patio.
  • Furnishings include a single bed, dining table and chairs, mirrored armoire, chest of drawers, and a built-in bookshelf. The kitchen has a fridge, stove and microwave.
  • Medical-grade air purifier unit and dehumidifier are provided in the apartment.
  • Laundry Room access privileges are included for residential tenants.
  • Windows in all rooms, including glass block in kitchen.
  • Location: central but quiet Toronto neighbourhood, within walking distance to a subway station, 24 hour bus route, and a great supermarket.

Note: There is a cat in the house, but it does not have access to the apartment. (Unfortunately, I cannot have any other pets in the house).

Rental Terms:

  • RESIDENTIAL TENANCY: $160/week including utilities. First/last & references required. Minimum stay: 4 weeks. (Monthly tenancy rate available upon request).
  • VACATION RENTAL: $65/night (1 person), one night reservation deposit payable in advance; remainder due at check-in by cash/traveller’s cheques.

(Minimum stay: 3 nights)
